Research

His research lies at the intersection of Signal Processing and Machine learning and ranges from theory to applications. In the theoretical front, the research focusses on the development of new computationally efficient and robust learning algorithms with emphasis on online learning and Bayesian learning, i.e. learning in kernel spaces and deep neural networks.

In the applications front, focus is in brain research involving fMRI and EEG modalities, i.e. developing dedicated efficient dictionary learning and deep learning algorithms. S. Theodoridis has also been involved in applications such as music and audio analysis, image processing and communications.

Merits, awards and positions include

  • 2017 European Association of Signal and Image Processing (EURASIP) Athanasios Papoulis Award.
  • 2014 IEEE Signal Processing Society Education Award.
  • 2014 EURASIP Meritorious Service Award.
