Power-2-x systems are expected to play a significant role in the green transition. This applies both to the production of green fuels, but also in terms of chemical energy storage in connection with power-2-x systems over longer periods of time than traditional energy storage is also crucial for integrating more fluctuating renewable energy into the energy supply.

The module focuses on both basic and advanced aspects of power-2-x systems and will focus on hydrogen production via electrolysis (and its use in fuel cell systems) as well as the production of green fuels and chemicals. It looks at both carbon-based substances such as methanol and non-carbon substances such as ammonia.

Advanced system configurations and their integration with other supply systems and carbon capture systems are addressed through the course with examples.

Laboratory work or work with laboratory data from real electrolysis and power-2-x systems will be included in the course.

Admission Requirements and Application

Course structure

The module is affiliated with the section for 'thermal engineering' at Aalborg University, Department of Energy, and will be offered by world-leading researchers and teachers in the field.

It is expected that the module will partly be offered via physical teaching, but online or hybrid teaching will also be used to the extent relevant.

The module is offered in English.

The course is assessed by internal oral examination.
