Separate module at Master´s level

Advanced Carbon Capture Systems

Carbon capture and storage will play a significant role in achieving the IPCC's climate goals. With the Advanced Carbon Capture Systems module, participants will be able to assess and design carbon dioxide capture systems in a system integration context, including all systems involved, at both an overall and relatively detailed technical level.

Carbon capture and storage will play a significant role in achieving the IPCC's climate goals. This applies both to carbon storage, but also to carbon utilization, where captured carbon dioxide from, for example, cement production, flue gas, biogas plants or other sources is used to displace the use of fossil fuels or for direct production of green fuels if the captured carbon dioxide comes from biomass or biological waste.

The module focuses on providing participants with insight into advanced carbon dioxide capture systems. The training will be based on more traditional post-capture solvent-based fishing methods (e.g. ammine-based systems), but will also deal with pre-capture with e.g. oxyfuel.

State-of-the-art research capture technologies and other emerging technologies, such as cryogenic carbon dioxide capture systems, will also be addressed.

Integration with existing energy supply systems, industrial processes and power-2-x systems is also addressed, as well as aspects of carbon dioxide transport and storage.

Admission Requirements and Application

Course structure

The module is affiliated with the section for 'thermal engineering' at Aalborg University, Department of Energy, and will be offered by world-leading researchers and teachers in the field.

It is expected that the module will partly be offered via physical teaching, but online or hybrid teaching will also be used to the extent relevant.

The module is offered in English.

The course is assessed by internal oral examination.
