Transfer is for you who are studying at another university in Denmark but would like to complete your current programme at Aalborg University.
How you should apply depends on whether you are a bachelor’s or master’s student, and how much of the programme you have completed. Make sure to read through the scenarios below to find out how to apply
If you attend a university outside of Denmark and wish to transfer to AAU, you must instead apply for admission, as it is not possible to transfer from a foreign university. If you are admitted to the programme, it will then be assessed whether you can receive credit transfer for your completed courses from the foreign university.
Conditions for transferring to AAU from another university are:
- you must be enrolled in the same programme at another university in Denmark.
- you must meet the current admission requirements for the programme at AAU.
- there must be available study places in the programme. Many programmes do not have available places due to admission restrictions.
- you are not about to be unenrolled, e.g., due to exhausted exam attempts, inactivity, or other reasons.
- you have passed what corresponds to the entire first year of study of the programme at AAU before the start of the semester.
You should be aware that the first year of the programme at AAU may be structured differently, consisting of different subjects or with different ECTS weighting than at your current university. Therefore, we recommend that you apply for both transfer and admission at the same time.
Go to the application portal and find the education type ‘Study change/Transfer – Bachelor’s Programs/Master’s Programs’. Then find the programme you wish to transfer to.
If you cannot find the programme, it is because it is not possible to apply for a transfer to the program at this time.
When you apply, you need to fill out and upload this form along with the following to your application:
- A transcript of records with all attempts (transcript RA052U). Ask your study office for this transcript.
- Curriculum or course descriptions for all courses included in your current programme.
- Documentation of which courses you expect to pass before semester starts. Name of courses, number of ECTS, and examination period (if you are not an AAU student).
- Enrolment confirmation.
- Documentation that you are not facing unenrolment from your institution, e.g., due to failure to meet the study start test, first-year test, or exhausted exam attempts, etc. Ask your institution for this documentation. (if you have not previously been enrolled in the programme at AAU).
- High school diploma (if you are applying for a bachelor’s programme).
- Documentation of language requirements, e.g., English test or high school diploma.
- Bachelor’s degree certificate (if you are applying for a master’s programme).
- The application deadline is 1 March for programmes starting in August/September.
- The application deadline is 15 October for programmes starting in February.
When you have applied via the application system, the following will be considered:
- That you are not at risk of being unenrolled from your current study programme.
- That you meet the current admission requirements for the programme at AAU.
- Whether you have passed the equivalent of the first year of study in the programme at AAU.
- Whether there are available study places in the relevant study level.
If the above requirements are met, you can be transferred to the programme. The study board will then decide whether you can receive credit transfer for more than the first year of study and prepare an individual study plan for you.
Responses to transfer applications are given on an ongoing basis and, in some cases, shortly before the start of the semester.
