If you withdrew yourself at a time when the university could have withdrawn you, you must apply in the same way as if the university had withdrawn you - see below.

How to apply

You apply for the programme as usual via optagelse.dk if you wish to be re-admitted in a bachelor’s programme. The application deadline is 15 March at 12:00 noon.

You apply for the programme as usual via the Application Portal if you wish to be re-admitted in a master’s programme.

In addition to documentation of meeting the admission requirements for the programme, you must also complete and upload this form along with the following to your application:

• A transcript of all exam attempts (transcript RA052U). Ask your previous study programme for this transcript. (if you have not previously been enrolled in the programme at AAU).
• Curriculum or course descriptions of all courses you have passed (if you have not previously been enrolled in the program at AAU).
• Enrolment and withdrawal confirmation (if you have not previously been enrolled in the programme at AAU).
• Documentation that you were not facing withdrawal from your previous study programme, e.g., not attending the study start test, first-year test, or exhausted exam attempts, or other reasons. Ask your previous study programme for documentation of this. (if you have not previously been enrolled in the programme at AAU).
• A consent form that gives the Admissions Office at AAU permission to contact your previous study programme if necessary for processing your application.

If you have previously studied the same programme you are applying for but were withdrawn, Aalborg University must assess whether you have significantly improved chances of completing the programme. This applies regardless of which university you previously studied at.

Examples of reasons for withdrawal may include:

• You did not pass the initial study test.
• You have exhausted your exam attempts in one or more subjects.
• You did not participate in or pass the first-year exam.
• You did not meet the study activity requirements.

You can only be admitted to the programme again if the circumstances that previously prevented you from completing it have changed, and you now have significantly improved your chances of completing the programme.

You apply for the programme as usual via the application portal if you wish to be readmitted to a master’s programme.

For your application, you need to fill out and upload this form. You must explain:

• Why you were unable to complete the programme.
• Why you believe you are now able to complete the programme.
• What documentation you have that can support this.

Requirements for Documentation of Health-Related Conditions

If illness or other health-related conditions prevented you from completing the programme, relevant documentation may include, for example, a medical certificate, health journal, psychologist or psychiatrist statement, or other relevant documents.

A medical certificate/psychologist statement should include:

• Your name and CPR number or date of birth.
• The name, CVR number, provider number, signature, and stamp of the doctor/psychologist.
• The date of issuance.
• When was your first contact with the doctor/psychologist regarding the course of treatment.
• A description from the doctor/psychologist of how your condition has affected your ability to study.
• Information about your current condition and an assessment of your ability to resume studies.
• A clear indication of whether the medical/psychological assessment is based on the doctor’s/psychologist’s own examination or the patient's information.

Examples of Documentation for Academic Qualifications

• Completed courses or educational elements that have significantly improved your chances of completing the programme.
• Employment contract in combination with an employer statement documenting that you have gained work experience that has significantly improved your chances of completing the programme.
• New and previous curriculum documenting that the programme has significantly changed content in one or more areas relevant to your application for readmission.

You must also upload the following to your application:

• A transcript with all exam attempts (transcript RA052U). Ask your previous study programme for this transcript (if you have not previously been enrolled in the programme at AAU).
• Curriculum or course descriptions for all courses you have passed (if you have not previously been enrolled in the programme at AAU).
• Enrolment and withdrawal confirmation (if you have not previously been enrolled in the programme at AAU).
• Documentation that you have significantly improved chances of completing the programme.
• Consent form allowing the Admissions Office at AAU to contact your previous study programme if necessary for processing your application.

If you wish to be readmitted to a bachelor’s programme:

• Opportunity for readmission with start in August/September: The application deadline is 15 March at 12:00. The application system opens on February 1.
• It is not possible to apply for bachelor’s programmes at AAU with a start in February.

If you wish to be readmitted to a master’s programme:

• Opportunity for readmission with a start in September: The application deadline is 1 March at 23:59. The application system opens in mid-December.
• Opportunity for readmission with a start in February: The application deadline is 15 October at 23:59. The application system opens in mid-August (this is only possible for a few masters degree programmes).

When you apply for readmission, the following will be considered:

• Whether you have been withdrawn from the programme for at least 5 months
• Whether you meet the current admission requirements for the programme
• Whether you have not passed the equivalent of the first year of study under the latest curriculum
• Whether you meet the requirement of significantly improved study opportunities, if applicable

If the above requirements are met, it does not mean that you will be offered a study place, but that your application for admission will be assessed on equal terms with other applicants to the programme. 

If you are readmitted to the programme, the study board will subsequently decide how much credit transfer you can receive for previously passed courses and prepare an individual study plan for you.

Response to Application for bachelor’s Programme

Applicants for readmission to a bachelor’s programme who do not meet the requirements will receive rejections on an ongoing basis. Applicants who meet the requirements for readmission will be informed on July 28 via UniStart whether they can be offered a study place.

Response to Application for master’s Programme

Applicants for readmission to a master’s programme with a start in September will receive responses on an ongoing basis until June 10.

Applicants for readmission to a master’s programme with a start in February will receive responses on an ongoing basis until November 10.
