Danish women and men have the same formal rights, but equality remains stagnant and lagging behind in a number of areas. This is one of the conclusions in the GRIP gender equality project at Aalborg University.

‘Gender equality involves dynamic paradoxes that include inconsistencies between words and actions as well as between legislation and the way rules are applied in society’, explains Professor Anette Borchorst, Department of Politics and Society.

Great attention to sexual harassment

Several topics are analysed in GRIP i.a. unequal pay, which is closely linked to the significant gender division of the labour market. The limited number of female managers is also problematic.

Sexism and sexual harassment are an area that has not received much attention for many years. However, lately, the topic has received far greater focus, particularly as a result of the 2nd #MeToo wave in 2020 where a very large number of women came forward with their stories.

The project contributes to strengthening the prevention of sexual harassment based on mappings of the policies of companies and organisations. Furthermore, the project has intensified the political debate on the efforts against sexual harassment.
