The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a key priority in society. However, current decision-making towards the SDGs has the weakness of focusing on individual goals and a lack of systematic attention to the interplay between them. The Danish Centre for Environmental Assessment (DCEA) is a hub for developing decision support tools to improve decision-making at all levels, hereunder also in terms of SDGs. With a key focus on open access tools and utilization of the huge number of data available, the centre engages in partnerships to provide the novel solutions needed for supporting societal green transition.
DCEA is leading a major and ambitious research project, DREAMS, that aims to integrate the SDGs in the globally applied decision support tools ‘environmental impact assessment’ and ‘strategic environmental assessment’. This involves a systematic and evidence-based approach to the SDGs that is a huge improvement of today’s decision-making. This approach is also part of education and training activities in the centre, which is attracting national and international attention. Collaborating with leading experts from Ministry and consultancy, DCEA provides competence development for civil servants, consultants, researchers, and other societal actors.
