What are your dreams as a recent graduate in terms of using your education and your competencies?

I want to learn how mathematical and economic theory can be put into practice and especially used to help people and our shared planet.

Did you incorporate your career wishes during your study?

My education is quite attractive to several different companies, so it has been incorporated into the projects what I wanted to do afterwards.

For example, I authored a longer thesis with Novo Nordisk A/S, and in this context, I was offered a position as a student assistant, which gave me an insight into what the company does, and it prepared me for the tasks that might arise in the industry.

What do you most enjoy having with you from AAU?

I really enjoy everything I have learnt from the project work during the programme. It has taught me how to work with many different personalities.

Project work has made it easier for me to look at things from different perspectives and have a more insightful approach to the wide variety of tasks that will occur outside of the study programme.
That said, I feel that there could have been more practical aspects to some of the courses. Most of us do not get to work with things as theoretically as many of the lecturers do.

What experiences in the transition from your student life to your working life will you pass on to current students or recent graduates?

It is important not to be too hard on yourself. Remember that no matter where you start, there will be a steep learning curve that will feel really difficult.

If you have the opportunity and an idea of what you want to work with after graduation, it is a clever idea to apply for a student job or an internship. Reach out to a company and talk to them about doing either a semester project together or possibly a thesis. This will greatly increase your chances of getting a job after graduation and will ensure that you get to know the company before you get a job.

What advice would you give yourself as a new student at AAU today?

Concentrate on creating a good community and work hard. With will and desire you will get through.

I would also recommend that you remember to ask the lecturers any questions you may have, as you may not get another chance to talk to so many experts in your field.

What are your favourite memories from AAU?

One of my favourite memories from my time as a student was “Knoldbold” during the introduction period. It is different physical games done in costumes, a sort of student Olympics. These games and physical activities created friendships and memories that were referred to for the rest of my studies.

In addition, it also helped to form closer relationships with the people who were already students - communities across semesters.

Are you still seeing somebody from your student days?

Yes, I am 😊

Fun fact about you?

Former competitive figure skater. Now I am part of the national skating union (DSU – Danish Skating Union).
